From the Tradition To The Contemporary Essence

FROM THE TRADITION TO
 THE CONTEMPORARY
ESSENCE

I am the one who always felt in love with hand crafts especially hand weaving. I know that the world already changed. They have such a lot of technologies nowadays and that make it able to fix every mistake done by human but anyway I still be a girl in this era that prefer a hand craft more then Technology. I accept that Technology become a serious important thing and we can’t live without it but we don’t have to use it in every subject in our life. Sometimes the thing that made by hand have  more charming that you might not realize. Now we hardly find fabric that weave by hand because that is a really hard work and have to use a lot of technical skill. How can it compare with fabric from the machine that able to weave more quicker, the price is cheaper and also have no mistakes? everyone looking for cheap thing… finally you forgot how beautiful the hand weaving really is ….   several of years ago I spent my time to learned plenty kinds of hand weaving from a lot of country around the world like Myanmar, Africa, Japan (I went to learn about a textile in Japan during my trip in June, You’ll see more blog and story about it in here soon.) but of course one of my favorite of all is the textile from myself country.

Yesterday there was a fashion show “Contemporary Essence” in Central world to celebrate the Queen Sirikit of Thailand who always work hard to develop our fabric and textile. Seriously, I know about the show just a day before the show but because I really do interested in Thai fabric that’s why I decided to go there immediately, so I really don’t know anything much about the show on the time that I arrived at the show. They let 4 of Thai brands like Realistic Situation, Theatre, Chai Gold Label and Wisharawish  to work with Thai fabrics and make it in there own way as a capsule collection and present it together on the fashion show to make people realise how  beautiful Thai fabric are and it also able to create a contemporary looks as well as other fabrics do.

'Theatre' and 'Realistic Situation' are my two favorite collection in this show. here below is the picture of Realistic Situation, the collection base on silk 'Madmii' fabric in soft pastel color. I love Madmii, it’s my favorite Thai fabric among other. For anyone who don’t know what it is, Madmii or commonly know as Ikat or Ikkat is a Traditional weaving and dyeing technique that they have to wrap some part of the yarns tightly and then dye it over and over so the part that already wrap will have a different color with the part that aren't wrapped so it will be able to create a lot of different colors. It’s a really hard process because you can’t see the pattern when you're dying it, the pattern will appear after weaving process, because the yarns are already dyed into a pattern scale so pattern in Madmii fabric gonna be a little more smoother then other kind of traditional weaving fabric. I think It’s really cool!

For this time 'Realistic Situation' use Madmii with a really modern dresses that look really feminine and some have a creative pattern details that so interesting and use some of pieces of black fabric to create a bow that looks pretty contrast with a soft pastel purple dress. The best of my favorite part is the crystals and jewelry that they decorate it on top of the Thai pattern, making Thai fabric look so modern.

And This is another brand that I really like in the show, 'Theatre' is the only one brand that make men collection yesterday. I really really love it. They choose country fabric that many designers don’t like to choose because it’s really hard to develop it to create a luxury looks. “Pra-Kow-Ma (ผ้าขาวม้า)” I’m not sure what it's called in English. This fabric were use long ago in Thailand. It’s not a luxury fabric, most of it use for man to wear during a shower or wear it in daily life. Usually be seen in different colors of cotton just like a tartan.

The reason I like this collection is this collection looks really lively and playful. The designer have so much energy and fearless to use these kinds of fabric, the way it mix together, all of that tartan and color, I don’t really expect to see it in this show.

Like you can see in the photos are some of them wearing a suit jacket, bowtie or some have a tuxedo style in Thai fabric made from silk(I’m not sure what kind of the fabric, I know that some are made from silk but not sure if it’s Madmii or else, because I can't see it clearly during the show so I am really sorry about that. It look like a kind of luxury stuffs but they mix it with short wide pants with cutting that remind me of the way that men like to wear the pant lower their underwear or boxer that look so contrast with that luxury style. The sense of color in this collection is interesting for me, even if it’s not going together well like 100% but It really impress me a lot. Seem like I’m watching the show that have a smell of Gucci and the fearless men-wears of Thom brow at the same time!!

This is my favorite look, I think everything are blended together so gently and perfectly. I really like the flower fabric that I see on the shirt. This one I’m completely not sure what kind of fabric but the designer really make it more valuable. I really love the way they cut “Pra-kow-ma” fabric and pleated it so if you see it quickly you might forget that it had been made from the traditional one.

Here is my favourite look from collection from
"Wisherwish". they use a lot of different kinds of fabric sew together. I really like the silhouette of the whole looks, It's interesting and the  feather really do help to make the collection look more luxury and gorgeous.

Finally, The last brand is "Chai Gold Label", They got inspired from "Diamond cut" so They cut The gold shiny Thai fabric in to a little square or a circle like the shape of diamond and decorated it on the see through fabric,  they drape some part of the dress so beautifully but unfortunately I don't have much of photos of "Chai Gold Label" I'm really sorry about it.

I feel like it have been a while since my last time visit fashion show inThailand. I'm so happy to meet a friends there. Here's my look yesterday. You still can follow me on Lookbook.nu to see my daily look:)
